Description

Titre :

"Adult incest survivors": Reply

Résumé :

Reply by the current authors to the comments made by Hans H. Huessey on the original article. Dr. Huessey’s comments reveal that he misunderstands the paper and is unaware of a number of developments in what is now appropriately called the field of traumatic stress studies. It is true that there are some adult incest survivors for whom it is not productive to bring repressed memories into conscious awareness. It is also true that for others there are times when this process is not productive. Questions related to benefit, harm, timing of clinical interventions and our definition of readiness for group treatment form the central concerns of our paper. Authors remain cautiously optimistic regarding the evaluation of benefit from adult incest survivor groups. Recent analysis of pre- and posttreatment measures of our groups indicates significant improvement in self-esteem as well as decrease in distressing symptomatology following therapy.
