Developing Insight in Incestuous Fathers

Given the potrait of incest fathers, the clinician's role in promotimg their development of insight is a formidable task. In this paper the concept of insight is explored and preconditions for the development of insight are suggested. A framework which promotes insight in incest fathers developed for use in the Baltimore County Sexual Abuse Treatment Program is detailed, as are suggestions for applying the framework in offender treatment. Insight is possible in incest fathers. It can promote mastery of stressors which, in the past, led to incestuous behavior, generate psychological growth in the offender, and prevent relapse.
