“Only Once If I Really Mean It”: Brief Treatment of a Previously Dissociated Incest Case
Résumé :This paper illustrates how techniques derived from Ericksonian hypnosis, brief and systemic therapy, were used conjointly in the treatment of a suicidal client suffering from debilitating memories of previously dissociated incest experiences. Conscious and unconscious techniques were combined to enable the client to resolve issues from the past incest trauma in the context of a secure and positive present orientation while building a practical foundation for non-symptomatic future perceptions and behaviors. The combination of techniques described is by no means intended as a replacement for support groups and other more traditional methods for treatment, or as an alternative approach for cases in which more traditional therapy seems insufficient.
